He told me: "Jie, next time when you go to Japan, make sure you don't de zui (offend)any shop keeper hor!"
Me: "Why would I go to Japan!?"
He: "I mean like when you go for holiday or what la"
Me: "oh ok. why leh?"
He: "BECAUSE EVERY SHOP KEEPER ACTUALLY HIRES MAFFIAS TO PROTECT THEM."

According to National Geog, practically every shop owner in Japan hires maffias to protect them just in case they are mistreated (in their perspective) by customers. In other words, should the shop keeper feels that you've bullied him or have taken advantage of him in any way, he'll send maffias coming your way! :S
For girls, the maffias would be likely to hold them in custody and even send them to prostitution!!
For guys, i don't know. ohwell.
But yeah, the scary maffias will force you to cut off your finger as well.
Scary or what. hmm. As much as we all presume and view Japan as a rather developed economy, who knew such a dark side is actually still existing. Singapore is really very safe :) Let's cherish it ok :D
